Now, don’t get me wrong but I’m not all big on sticking to trends all the time when it comes to fashion. I’m more of a “wear what you feel like” gal, but the trends from the SS22 ready-to-wear collection just cannot be ignored. Let’s just say desperate times call for desperate needs.
As the digital fashion weeks wear off with some labels taking to in-person shows, designers start looking for more inclusive inspirations pushing further away from the usual elitist patterns. They are more based on what people are currently wearing on the street. Many of the season’s biggest trends have developed on these streets. Talk about aesthetics, that have gained much more popularity in recent times- grunge, indie, boho, also have their roots exclusively from these street styles.
Scroll through to discover some of the hottest streetwear trends that have successfully made it to the runway and who knows you might just end up creating your own future trends in the process!
The not so Short, Shorts
We’ve seen lounge shorts, biker shorts, tailored shorts, and what not! But now, it’s time for these tiny shorts to shine, and mark their names on the maps of fashion. These shorts are so short that they remind me of the 80’s tennis fits and what’s a striking factor about them is that it’s the men in the house who are popularizing the trend this time! We can call it another step that’s blurring gender-fashion lines, so cheers to that!
Honestly, what part of short shorts don’t scream Street style to you? What was once known as “too much skin” isn’t an issue any longer. In fact, Prada’s entire men’s collection was about the beaches, the skin, the rompers, and everything in!
No layers? no drama.
Layering your outfits has surely become one of the most essential parts of pulling off a good look by now. However finding fresher, innovative ways to do them is what makes this streetwear trend so special this year. Suits over graffiti tees, shorts on rompers, layering with net are some of the newly found trends seen on the Parisian and Australian fashion week’s this season. Remember, it’s not just about the number but the style too.
One Size - Oversized
It’s easy, it’s chic, it’s flowy, what’s not to love about wearing baggy clothes? They are your one-stop comfy alternatives and are making cozy core thrive today. Forget about those mini skirts love, cause these are your new ‘hot girl’ fits. This year we have them upgraded to even puffy rompers and airy dresses, so now you know it’s not just about the sweatshirts anymore. They are also the runway’s first, finest choices this season, making them more approved than ever.
Oversized clothing for the win!
Tailored Streetwear
Think tailored, think London; This fairly new streetwear trend initially began in the alleys of the fashionable London. I mean who thought that the rustic street style could also be remotely tailored? But if there’s anyone to pull it off it would definitely be the Erdem and the Englishmen. And it is certainly what the future of fashion stands for, elegant blends are so in for the future trends. Although they might be leaning onto a more retro style, I think the past year’s major fashion trends have surely proved to us that our closets have a lot of room for vintage too.
Sparkle City (Menswear Edition)
Stones and sparkles have always been a huge part of glam fashion since times immemorial, but how often do we see them solely incorporated in men’s looks? And it’s not just about a few glittery twists here and there, I’m talking fully sparkle embellished clothing! Sound’s fun, right.
This trend was originally picked up around 2018-19 in Comme Des Garcons collections with its mismatched sequin suits which quickly escalated, becoming a big thing in the coming years as many other fashion houses like Celine, Dolce Gabbana, Givenchy actively started using them in their current collections. And of course, to add a twist, they are fairly introduced into more casual, streetwear styles for your EXTRA, extra glam!
Colors or Prints
While we all are huge fans of summer shirts and hot pinks, the question is how do we dilute them so that they fit in for every season? Well, Dior and Louis Vuitton have the answers for you. The key is to add an unexpected color or print along with your usual plain patterns. Say a bright lime green with neutral shades or tiny print motifs on your pockets, purses, fanny packs, and that’ll do the job better than they initially ever could!
